House of RA222 Fashion

As those of you who follow me know, I have been knee deep in the ICAD challenge on Instagram.  I previewed what you see below to some close friends who then asked me how I did this so I thought I would do a quick post.

Today’s ICAD prompt is “Fashion.”  So the house of RA222 lol took to the samples of lace and appliques which I have had for the longest time.  I am all about embedding things into modeling paste.  In my RA222 idea book I had noted the use of lace with paste.  So the prompt and the lace led to what you see below.

The quick “how to”

I cut each piece of lace into pieces which I then fashioned into the way I wanted my dress to look.

Next I took manila card stock and glued it onto heavy weight chipboard.

I then slathered Liquitex light modeling paste “stucco” style onto the chipboard being careful not to cover up all of the chipboard. I prefer leaving the edges bare as the spray mists play differently on the paste and paper.

With the paste still in its wet state I carefully placed/embedded the lace pieces to form the dress.  Modeling paste is great as its own glue to hold things down.  I used my finger to lightly place modeling paste onto small parts of the lace as well.

After the modeling paste was dry I selected sprays that I wanted to work with and created a pattern that appealed to me.

Once everything was dry I used some gold acrylic paint to highlight the mid portion of the dress and the body of the butterfly.

All of this resulted in the image above.

I didn’t take process photos for this project.  However, if I get at least five different people saying they would like to see the process I will create another project with a different dress and create another blog post showing the process shots with the description of the process I used.

If this tutorial inspired you I would love to see what you create.  Leave a comment below with a direct link to your direct blog post so I can see what you’ve done.
