Susana’s Fairy Garden

So here I go my first official personal blog post EEEEEK 🙂

I always start my projects with an idea board. I gather all the stamps, stencils, inks etc that I feel would lend themselves to what I see in my head. Believe me, what’s in my head is a scramble bamble of ideas trying to become something cohesive. So the idea board helps me test out images placement color etc before I commit. I say that as my investment to a background takes me some time to color and light placement/balance and would not want to see ruined on a whim. But that’s how I roll and its ok cuz there are no rules in art cept mixing the wrong colors to get mud unless mud is what you want LOL 😀

So here is my idea board for Susana’s Fairy Garden.

What you see next is the placement of objects I want to tier in to the background usually stencil imagery and partial stamping. If you look really close you can see a stamp that swirly and lends itself to the mood of the piece. I used Tattered Angels and Art Anthology sprays to create the background. I like to think about the mood and where I see the light coming thru my pieces and that’s how I determine where to place my colors. Its random yet its not. When using modeling paste there are two things to consider.  First, where is it going to go because once it’s applied there’s no going back.  Second, is it going to be used for a background effect or a foreground effect.  One of my favorites is Paper Artsy grunge paste (LOVEEEE) that I use below.

Here I fussy cut and glued on a Penny Black stamp and colored it with Paper Artsy chalk paint.

Next I just kept adding in elements like the Memory Box Gate with Marianne die elements as well as a rock wall from decorative strips from Tim Holtz. The tree stencil is from Stencil Girl and the flowers at the top is a Paper Artsy Stamp.

The finale is just adding some more pieces and coloring them in using a variety of paints and in the case of the purple Paper Artsy flowers and the sunflowers I used polychromos pencils.
